Under David Levin, this school's on a steady upward trajectory. The academic standars, always good, have over the past decade become excellent. But far more important, and the school's USP among high-powered boys' schools, is the general atmosphere. . Almost everyone gets involved in various extra-curricular activities, even if it's just the (student run) Dr Who Appreciation Society. The boys genuinely come from all racial, religious and social backgrounds (about 1/3 are Jewish, maybe 1/4 Asian, 1/3 are on some form of financial assistance and almost 100 pay no fees at all, while other some parents are regularly found in the newspaper rich lists and there's always a small procession of chauffeur-driven cars waiting outside the school come 4 o'clock). This diversity means you get none of the stuffiness some of our rivals can suffer from, and everyone is genuinely grounded in the real world. On the downside, the site, whilst spectacularly located on the Thames opposite the Tate and a couple of hundred yards from St Paul's, is a bit cramped, the building isn't exactly pretty, and playing fields are 30 minutes away by coach. The name doesn't have quite the same recognition as St Paul's or Westminster either, but perhaps in today's climate that's not such a bad thing.
