in my time if you were academic or sporty you could get on, if you were average you were ignored and in the main, let down by the system. I haven't much good to say about the school really. For the considerable fees( it was and probably still is one of the most expensive schools in the UK) the quality of teaching was very poor.No sour grapes at all as my prep school before, i only have high praise for.

I always found that the discipline balance was just right. It wasn't too rigid nor relaxed. There was always a very strong sense of mutual respect between staff and pupils.
The staff support and commitment to the pupils was excellent, allowing us to excel in whatever we wanted without forcing anything down our throats.
They have also managed to keep the worthwhile traditions of a boarding school without being stuck in the past.

My children are in the pre-prep and are having a wonderful time. The staff are all very caring and the pupils love their time there. The after school clubs make a big difference to me as a working parent.
The School has been thoroughly refreshed under the guidance of a new Headmistress, Mrs Jenny Burrett in 2004 and she has lifted the academic and behavioural standards of pupils, such that many now get scholarships to leading public schools and Felsted School itself.
The pupils are taught respect, manners
and all the obvious things that so many schools do not seem to do these days.
Parents are encouraged to get involved and there are many social occasions to get involved, such as quiz nights, book clubs, language classes, tennis lessons, golf days and coffee mornings - and that is just for the parents!

If you wanted to achieve academically, you had the choice, equally with sport and music, but you were not pushed into it.

Good grades are an important goal now at Felsted, I think, but other skills and talents are equally valued. The chance to do well in sports, music and drama seems to have given my sons the confidence to do well academically, too. Discipline isn't rigid, but a high level of self-imposed standards are expected. Such is life!

Fantastic grounds and great facilities for the day pupil. Discipline was awful when I was there, and academic standards take second place to sport and music.
