My daughter attended the school for two years and was never happy. I always found the teachers approachable although they have a closed door system which i personally do not like. They have very limited play areas in the prep school a small playground and they do not have a varied amount of sports they have a good net ball team but not that many other sports. I daughter is very sporty and quite sensitive and it never suited her. Academically she did not suffer however, they have a lot of homework an hour a night and attend on saturday mornings. She now attends a school that sets homework 3 days a week and no saturdays but has 70 acres of woods and the children are allowed to put on overalls and play in the grounds and woods all breaks and they do all sports from a young and she has excelled and tells me she is the happiest she has been in her life. I think with kings it is a very traditional school a bit showy really if you want a family school quite easy going and relaxed then this is not the place for you but if you want an old english traditional school then it is for you. my daughter did not go backwards academically but never gained alot of confidence there as they treated all the children as if they were a few years younger than they were if taught us a few lessons about school choosing do not be impressed by what you see

We have been very pleased with Kings Preparatory School. The interest in and care of our children has been first class and the response from Senior Members of staff has always been highly attentive. There is a strong music tradition and standard of achievement which has benefited our children enormously. The sporting side of the curriculum is healthy and there is an improving tradition of success. Likewise, there is a wide range of extra curricular activities and clubs, which makes the whole experience much richer. We have been very pleased with our childrens' experience at King's.

All three of my boys have attended Kings from the age of 2-3 years and I currently have 2 boys aged 9 and 12 In the preparatory school. The children have always been well supported by dedicated staff and a headmaster who is an excellent team leader, and who knows everything about the children. The discipline is excellent, and the children are taught from an early age what is expected of them and to be polite, and kind to their friends and respect their teachers. The extra curricular support for my son who has dyxlexia and dyscalcular is excellent and regular contact between the teachers, and us as parents has encouraged him to do well and remain confident and happy in his learning. Both of the boys are happy and look forward to school every day, where they are continually supported and praised for their work and achievements, and where we are encouraged to be interested in their school life. The school will always find something that your child is good at and focus on this, be it sport, music or a language, whilst still encouraging them to expand in other areas. Most importantly it is wonderful to see my boys so very happy at school and have such an interest in learning.

My eldest son spent 4 years at Kings Prep before moving up to the Senior School and my youngest is now in his 3rd year in the Prep School. I have nothing but praise for the school, its teaching staff and head teachers. Each child is treated as an individual and encouraged to reach their full potential academically. The children have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities, of which there are many, and it's so nice when they are congratulated by their peers for achieving good results which is not always the case at many other schools. I would agree wholeheartedly with the good reviews given by other parents on this web site but would like to give my thoughts if you have a child who is musical and were thinking of auditioning to become a Cathedral Chorister. My eldest was a chorister for 4 years and my youngest has another 2 years left in the Cathedral Choir. The choir is made up of 14 boys between the ages of 9 and 13 and all of the boys attend Kings Prep. Although being a chorister involves a great deal of commitment, both by the boys and their parents, I think that what the children gain from being in the choir is well worth any sacrifice that may have to be made. (no lie in on a Sunday morning)! Apart from singing in weekly evensong services and sunday worship, they also take part in various radio broadcasts, weddings, and concerts. It is not all work as the choir association arrange "fun" trips for the boys, bowling and pizza is a particular favourite. For any parent thinking of sending their child to Kings, all I can say is come and have a look round for yourself, the facilities are great and the children are happy. Sending my boys to Kings is I think one of the best decisions I've made and I am certain that they would agree with me.

After visiting various grammar schools in my area looking for the very best for my son, I visited King's School Rochester, my search was over. Here I found the facilities superb, the teaching staff are experienced and dedicated. The discipline is excellent as is the pastoral care. The pupils are respected as individuals and in turn show respect for each other and their elders.
My son has been a pupil at King's for almost two years and is very happy. He is proud to belong to what must be the finest school in the south east, if not the country!

Having had two sons progress through the prep. school I felt I would like to share my thoughts about the school to parents considering King's for their childrens' education.
The pupils are developed as individuals and are encouraged to think for themselves. Teachers are caring but firm. Standards of behaviour and attitude to others are important. Academic, sporting, musical and artistic talents are developed and pursued in a purposeful manner. Parents are welcomed to discuss their child's progress and encouraged to attend school activities - weekly cathedral services, sports matches, musical concerts, drama productions etc.
Speaking personally as someone who never enjoyed school, to have sons who enjoy going to school speaks volumes for King's and its teaching staff.

My two sons attended Kings Preparatory for 5 years and have now moved to Kings Senior. They were extremely happy at the school which showed excellent discipline. All the children are well mannered, respecting their elders and the classes are small which encouraged my sons not to feel so self conscious. Indeed it has made me very proud to watch them both grow into confident, polite, well mannered young men. The children receive an excellent academic education and they work very hard with homework being set each night. There is also much emphasis on sport, music and drama. Both the headmaster and all the teachers not only know all the pupils and their parents by name but are also aware of each child’s strengths and weaknesses. The teachers are very committed and approachable. It was the best decision we made to send our children to Kings.

My child recently joined the School and has settled in very quickly. The headmaster and staff are totally approachable and readily available. The children seem to be very kind towards each other and collectively protective towards fellow pupils. The values and ethos appear to be in keeping with those of basic social decency.

Academically, I believe that high standards are obtained and certainly children are encouraged to reach the highest possible levels in all and any activities that they particularly enjoy.

Traditional standards of discipline remain in force and children are actively encouraged to respect others.

We are delighted that our son has been given the opportunity to attend what has to be one of the finest traditional School in the country.

I currently have two children in the Preparatory school and another will join them in September.
I feel the school truly strives to treat each child as an individual, allowing and encouraging them to develop their strengths and maximise their potential in many areas. The inclusive atmosphere encourages high academic achievement but not at the expense those with other talents.
My children have developed confidence and maturity in the caring and respectful environment. They are happy and are successful in their studies, enjoying the diversity and fellowship of students and staff alike.
