Great great school with excellent facilities. The only thing that lets it down is the high school pupils have the ability to cross paths with the lower school, on their way to the swimming pool for example, and can be noisy and intimidating (in particular more attention needs to be paid to the high school girls' standard of attire, "chavvy" hair styles (side ponytails!?) and use of make up - the over all look of them does not do favours for the school nor sets an example for younger pupils).
The academic standards are good although more talented pupils are not able to gain their full potential in the lower years (i.e. the prep school) as it is not New Hall's philosophy to do this - they would prefer to have classes that are doing the same work rather than the more able doing more challenging things. This can be frustrating if you have a very academic child but absolutely fine if you are happy for your child to "go with the flow" and not worry about academic success as such a young age.
New teachers into New Hall can take a year or so to become "New Hall Teachers" and adopt their caring and enthusiastic attitude - this can be annoying if your child is in a class with a new teacher.
The pastoral care is excellent and the school vibe is incredible. The pupils are very caring towards each other and this clearly shows in the smiles they have all around the school. Mrs Couch is a credit to the school and if all teachers were like her, the world would be a better place and we would without a doubt produce happier more rounded children!
